Types of wood shingles
Wood shingles are available in many different varieties.
A basic distinction is made between cut and hand-split wooden shingles. In addition, there is a wide range of shapes, dimensions and installation methods to choose from.
If you would like to add colour accents, we treat the façades with high-quality, natural linseed oil paints. These are vapour-permeable, easy to maintain and completely harmless to health.
All types of wooden shingles can be used for the façade. For roofing, however, we only use hand-split wooden shingles, as these are more weather-resistant.

Hand-split wood shingles for façades
Hand-split wooden shingles have the advantage that their wood fibres remain intact on the surface due to the manual splitting process. Because of their natural irregularity and the change in shape when they swell and shrink, the shingles do not lie flat on top of each other, which allows for optimal drying. As a result, they absorb significantly less moisture and are characterised by their particularly high durability. On façades, they can easily last 100 years or more. Spruce and larch are used as wood types, but oak and chestnut are also available.

Cut wood shingles for façades
Machine-cut wooden shingles are used for façade cladding. Prefabricated into elements, they can be laid very efficiently. They are made from spruce or larch wood and are available in a variety of shapes, such as round, oval, square-edged or heart-shaped.
Spruce wood shingles are often protected with a coat of paint, but even untreated they have an impressive lifespan. We often see façades with cut wood shingles that are easily 100 years old or more thanks to high-quality wood, professional installation and intelligent structural wood protection, such as generous canopies.
